These biscuits go hand and hand with my old-fashioned stew recipe. Serve warm with butter!
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 8 tablespoons butter (one stick) - diced
- 1 1/2 cups of milk
Directions
- Step 1 Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together.
- Step 2 With a fork or your fingertips rub butter into flour until it looks like course crumbs.
- Step 3 Add milk and mix with your hands gently into a soft dough.
- Step 4 Flour surface lightly and pat out dough gently until 3/4 inch thick.
- Step 5 Using a 2 inch round biscuit cutter or glass jar cut out biscuits. (Do not twist when cutting – they won’t rise)
- Step 6 Place on well-greased baking sheet. Bake about 10 minutes in a preheated 450 degree oven, flipping them over half way through. Take out when they are golden brown. Serve warm. Slice down the center with a pat of butter. Enjoy!
