Galentine’s Day Brunch

Galentine’s Day Brunch

Valentine’s Day is all about spending time with the one you love.  Full of romance, hearts, and flowers, I decided to make a few recipes to share with my girlfriends for a Galentine’s Day brunch. Galentine’s day,  is about getting together with your besties.  I thought it would be fun to have a light brunch with a few close friends before the big football game later that day.  Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13th, but getting together with your best friends should happen way more often than once a year!  Galentine's Day Table

I started by choosing a color palette that I thought would represent the holiday.  I decided to use my pink depression glass and vintage cranberry porcelain dishes to set the table. I love antiquing, going to auctions, and spending time hunting for finds at flea markets.  I found almost a complete set of Swinnertons Kent pattern dishes at a local antique store a few years ago and thought they would be perfect to use for this occasion.  I love having opportunities to use my pretty dishes and display my food on them.  Layering dishes, using cakes stands, trivets, and  bowls add interest to your tablescape.

I wanted to keep the flower arrangements short so we could see each other.  I chose short rectangle glass vases to fill with Ranunculus, Freesia, Caspia, and Oleander.

I started by making a beet salad, made with fresh roasted beets, feta, shallots, and candied pecans.  I decided to make three quiches, giving them a choice- Tomato Basil, Ham and Swiss, and Zucchini Onion.  To me, quiche is the perfect brunch food, not too heavy, yet still filling. For a flakey bite, I made Puff Pastry Cheese Straws, which are super easy but full of flavor.  To make the Galentine’s Day Brunch a bit more festive, I thought a Mimosa Bar would be fun.  Whether they wanted a cocktail or mocktail, there was a variety juices and garnishes for them to chose from.  Finally, dessert.  I made a Chocolate Kahlua Pie.  Chocolatey, rich, yet not too sweet it’s a delicious way to end a meal.  The best part, is that it could be made in advance.

It just takes a little bit of effort and love to make your best friends feel special. Have fun with entertaining! Use any special cutlery or dishes you may have to change things up! It’s great to make food you love, for people you love…especially on a day all about love.
