Rich Dark Chocolate Brownies

These dark chocolate brownies are rich and not overly sweet. Served best warmed topped with your favorite ice cream! Everyone's oven is different but for more fudgelike brownies bake for about 18minutes - your tester will be sticky. If you prefer more cakelike brownies, bake longer until tester comes out clean. Chopped pecans would also be delicious in these brownies.
Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 eggs - I use jumbo
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup dark chocolate chunks
Directions
- Step 1 In a medium sauce pan over medium heat melt butter and shortening.
- Step 2 Add cocoa powder.
- Step 3 Stir in sugar.
- Step 4 Remove from heat.
- Step 5 Add one egg at a time stirring in between.
- Step 6 Add half the flour and mix well. Add the remaining flour and mix until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Step 7 Add vanilla extract.
- Step 8 Stir in chocolate chunks.
- Step 9 Scrape down sides of pan.
- Step 10 Pour batter into greased 13×9 baking pan.
- Step 11 Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 18 to 22 minutes based on your brownie consistency preference.
- Step 12 Let cool for 5 minutes and serve warm with ice cream!
